Introduction
Armoda is a prescription medicine used in the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness (narcolepsy). It improves wakefulness and helps you to stay awake and reduces the tendency to fall asleep during the day, thus restoring the normal sleep cycle. Armoda may be taken with or without food. How to use Armoda
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Armoda may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How Armoda works
Armoda modulates the levels of chemical messengers in the brain and exerts a stimulant effect to reduce extreme sleepiness.
What if you forget to take Armoda?
If you miss a dose of Armoda, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
  • Take it with or without food, preferably in morning time before you need to be alert.
  • It is not a replacement for a good sleep routine. Try to get the right amount of sleep every night.
  • It may cause headaches. Drink plenty of water and take a suitable pain killer. Inform your doctor if it does not go away.
  • Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Your doctor may monitor you for heart disease and blood pressure while taking this medicine.
  • It makes contraceptive pills less effective, consult with a doctor for effective contraception.
  • Avoid taking alcohol while taking this medicine as it may lead to increase side effects.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
  • Talk to your doctor if you notice sudden mood changes or develop suicidal thoughts.
  • Stop taking medication and inform your doctor if you experience rash, itching or breathing problem while taking this medicine.
  • Inform your doctor if you had a history of depression, anxiety, mood disorder, or mania and drug abuse.
  • Inform your doctor if you notice difficulty sleeping, diarrhea, hallucinations, nausea, chest pain, and fast or slow heart rate.
  • It may cause addiction/ dependence potential when taken for long term.
  • Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor.

Contraindication
Uncontrolled moderate to severe hypertension or cardiac arrhythmias; history of left ventricular hypertrophy or ischaemic ECG changes, chest pain, any clinical signs of mitral valve prolapse.
Mode of Action
The mechanism of armodafinil is unknown but it appears to exert its stimulant effects by reducing GABA-mediated neurotransmission.

Interaction
May increase metabolism of ciclosporin, oral contraceptives. May increase the levels/effects of warfarin, TCAs and CYP2C19 substrates (e.g. citalopram, diazepam, methsuximide, phenytoin, propranolol, sertraline). Levels/effects may be reduced with CYP3A4 inducers (e.g. aminoglutethimide, carbamazepine, nafcillin, nevirapine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, rifamycins). Levels/effects may be increased with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. azole antifungals, clarithromycin, diclofenac, doxycycline, erythromycin, imatinib, isoniazid, nefazodone, nicardipine, propofol, protease inhibitors, quinidine, telithromycin, verapamil).
