Camide 0.5% may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Camide 0.5% is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby. To reduce the amount of Camide 0.5% that reaches the breastmilk, place pressure over the corner of the eye for 1 minute or more, then remove the excess solution with an absorbent tissue.
UNSAFE
Camide 0.5% may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive. Some people find the bright light (such as daylight) uncomfortable for a few hours after receiving Camide 0.5% which may affect your ability to drive.

Introduction
Camide 0.5% is used before eye examinations and to treat an eye condition called uveitis. It acts by enlarging the pupil of the eyes and helps the doctor visualize the eye more closely. It reduces redness and swelling in the eyes after cataract surgery. Camide 0.5% is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. How to use Camide 0.5%
This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.
How Camide 0.5% works
Camide 0.5% is used to dilate or enlarge the pupil of the eye so that the doctor can examine the back of the eyeball. It may also be used to reduce pain in certain eye conditions.
What if you forget to take Camide 0.5%?
If you miss a dose of Camide 0.5%, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
  • Camide 0.5% enlarges the pupil for eye examination and is commonly used in adults.
  • It also reduces inflammation (redness and swelling) after cataract surgery.
  • Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the drop.
  • Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
  • Stinging sensation may occur for 1-2 mins. Notify your doctor if it persists for longer.
  • Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.

Contraindication
Contraindicated in persons showing hypersensitivity to any component of this preparation.
Mode of Action
Tropicamide is a tertiary amine antimuscarinic which causes relaxation of the sphincter muscle of the iris resulting in pupillary dilatation. It also causes paralysis of the ciliary muscle leading to loss of accommodation.
Precaution
Elderly, children, pregnancy. Hypertension, hyperthyroidism, DM, cardiac disorders. To reduce systemic absorption, press on the lacrimal sac for 1-2 minutes following instillation. Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities and protect eyes from bright illumination when pupils are dilated. May fail to produce adequate cycloplegia in children.
Side Effect
Transient stinging, blurred vision, photophobia and superficial punctate keratitis have been reported with the use of tropicamide. Increased intraocular pressure has been reported following the use of mydriatics. Dryness of the mouth, tachycardia, headache, allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting, pallor, central nervous system disturbances and muscle rigidity have been reported with the use of tropicamide.
